Artists's statement
Politics, war and human nature
Western idealism
'Westerners are always thinking in terms of paradise: “Everyone is going to be resurrected,” or “It's going to become utopia through politics,” or “You're going to die and go to a middle-class heaven,” or something.'
Adi Da Samraj
Human nature
Christianity tamed the heart of man and must be condemned for denying the value of 'exuberant spirits, splendid animalism, the instincts of war and conquest, the deification of passion, revenge, anger, voluptuousness, adventure and knowledge'.
Friedrich Nietzsche
Christianity gave us messages that denied our human instincts for passion in many forms. It didn't stop it from happening however. In truth man has infinite passion whether for evil or good and it cannot be properly directed by moralising but by true example and guidance by good hearts and above all tolerance of all creeds and nations.
Truth
There has always been conflict in the world and always will be. That is the nature of the world and the ego.
One the opening night, someone attached a hastily scrawled note to Adi's statement about truth, which had a nice bit of anarchy about it.
The note read: If you let go of your ego, you will find you are no longer in conflict.
Thanks Graeme.
